Absolute Power or Political Chaos

On Sunday, the French Legislative elections will close the electoral process which gave victory to the outgoing president in May.

If President Macron’s political party and its allies win, the Elysée will have full powers to lead the country for the next five years. Otherwise, a new prime minister from a new majority will then be responsible for forming a government representative of the political color in the national assembly.

A cohabitation could then see the light of day, as it was the case in 1986, 1993 and 1997.

Presidential power would be diminished, and the laws passed in parliament would probably not conform to the political line of the president.
