A Victorious Defeat

With 154 seats, President Macron’s party is the most represented party in the National Assembly.

However, with Modem, 44, and Horizon, 26, as its allies, it is far from reaching an absolute majority of 289 seats.

Les Republicains, by obtaining 78, could allow the president to have this coveted majority, but it will be more than difficult for him to convince this political party, eager to impose itself, and therefore not to support the Executive. The debacle of the president can only serve it. On the other hand, to join it could muzzle it.

With the spectacular thrust of Le Rassemblement National of Marine Le Pen, 90, and the expected result of the extreme left coalition with Jean-Luc Mélenchon, 149, the parliamentary group representing the executive will not be able to do anything to face an opposition that will do whatever needs to be done to overturn the table.

On top of all that, the Modem and Horizon parties could join the Republicans, and drop the president.

What is left for Macron would only be his right of veto, the “49.3”, which he could use exceptionally and which would well risk causing the heated debates at the assembly to move into the streets.
